Facts About Blackjack

Blackjack is a very popular online casino game, but there may be some things that you didn’t know about the exciting game of 21. So, let’s take a look at the top five interesting facts about Blackjack.

1. Blackjack Has Been Around For Centuries

Long before the modern technology of online casinos and virtual games, such as playing Blackjack at Paddy Power Games, Blackjack was being played in some form or another, as way back as the late 16th century. In fact, Blackjack is such an old gambling game, that is even older than Poker and slot machines, which have been around for only 50 and 100 years, respectively.

The game is believed to have derived from a version of twenty-one or vingt-un, which originated in France, and is first recorded as a card game in the novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Carvantes. Over the years the game has evolved, but the basics of getting 21 as the main goal has remained the same.

2. You Can Win Without Getting 21

Some say that Blackjack is actually all about beating the dealer, not always simply getting as close to 21 as possible, without going bust. For example, you may have a low total in your cards, but if the dealer goes bust before you, you still win – regardless of the fact if you were near 21 or not.

3. Card Counting Is A Real Technique

Card counting in Blackjack become a proven technique in 1962, when the first book about this strategy was released. It’s a skill that allows the player to estimate the number of low or high value cards left in the deck, and adjust their bet accordingly, by looking at the cards that have already been dealt.

Since the books have been published about card counting and its popularity as a technique increased, casinos have now put measures in place to make it harder for players to count cards, including shuffling the cards again before the end of the deck has been reached. However, it is still not an illegal thing to do, as it’s just a skill to use alongside your normal way of playing.

When it comes to online Blackjack, the card counting technique is essentially useless, as it relies on all the cards being dealt out from the deck. But due to random number generators, the results of an online game are completely randomised, meaning that the deck is shuffled before every hand.

4. The Game Isn’t Affected By Other Players At The Table

Unlike Poker, and other gambling card games, Blackjack is just played between the player and the dealer. So, what the other players at a table decide to do has no effect on the game you are playing. This debunks the myth that if the first player on the table makes a mistake, the odds will change for players that follow. That’s simply not true. If you’re using the right strategy and a game style that suits you, what the other players have done before you will not change the outcome of your Blackjack game.

5. It’s One Of The Only Casino Games Where Your Decision Affects The Outcome

Some casino games rely solely on luck and a completely random result left to chance, like Roulette and Slots, when you wait for the spin of the wheel or the reels. And although in Blackjack it’s the luck of the draw, the game actually involves decision making, strategies and tactics from the player.

This then determines where the game goes and how you go forward. Some players really enjoy the mental and challenging aspect that Blackjack brings to the table.
