Published on December 5th, 2018

Your television set is an important part of your home. It makes for great movie nights with friends, it lets you binge the latest Amazon Prime hit, and it brings your family together to watch all those home movies! So when it comes to what holds your TV in place, you’re not just going to leave it to chance!

There are two main type of TV stands available in the current market. One is the floating TV stand, that is placed on directly on your wall, and the other is regular TV stand, that allows your television to rest on top of your entertainment center. Though they both do the job of balancing and holding your TV, there are some basic differences between them.

Though they both allow you to watch your favorite shows, one may be more suitable to your home than the other.

When trying to figure out what’s best for your home, it’s helpful to do a side by side comparison. Once you see all the advantages and disadvantages of each option, most of the time there is a clear winner between the two. Let’s see how the two TV stand types hold up in the ring against one another!

2. Design Perspective

Design wise, a floating TV stand is always the winner. The design of a normal TV stand is more conventional and we are used to seeing them underneath the television. Since the dawn of television, there have been TV stands to help hold them in place!

However, a floating TV stand is a modern twist on the old style. It is dynamic, allows for the television to be the center of attention, and allows for more room on your much needed table top space!

3. Durability

The primary function of a TV stand is to make sure your television is sturdily placed and won’t fall over and break. So here comes the durability test. The typical stand is very solid, handy, hard to break. In one word, they are durable enough to last a long time.

Floating TV stands are almost entirely dependent upon how well they are placed on the wall. If there are any mistakes, you miss the stud, a bolt isn’t tight enough, etc., that TV is going DOWN!

4. Space Saving

Saving space in your home is a huge factor when considering the right TV stand. Regular stands occupy a lot more space compared to floating stands. We all know that floating stand can be mounted on the wall, not taking up any of your precious surface space.

If you have a small room and find it difficult to place your TV set, Floating TV stand will definitely help you. Just attach wall-mount to the floating stand, carefully following the directions, and BOOM, your TV isn’t randomly placed on that old side table you pulled out of storage!

5. Portability

When it comes to moving around your TV, portability is an important factor. Floating TV stands are not particularly portable. You can’t use or move those anywhere you want. It needs a proper arrangement to set up precisely so that the mount is sturdy and the TV won’t fall.

Whereas a regular TV stand simply needs a level surface.

  • Table? TV.
  • Floor? TV.
  • Kitchen counter? TV.
  • Flat surface? TV.
  • Entertainment center? TV.
  • Mantle? TV.

6. Viewing Angles

Floating stand gives greater viewing angles than a standard one. Simply by placing the television higher on the wall, the floating stand maximizes the viewing angle from many different positions in the room! You can simply adjust the mount to tip the TV down or up as you’d like. As a result, many people can enjoy their favorite show from all around the room!

Typical TV stands offer a more limited visibility. They can generally only provide a portion of the room a great angle, primarily because they are only as high as the surface it is resting on.

7. Little Hands!

Children can easily touch the TV set mounted by the regular stand. This could cause for any number of accidents, handprints on the screen, or issues with chords.

Floating TV stands are considered to be safer for homes with small children.
