Who like spending money if they can save them? No one! But what if I told you that you may be spending way too much money on moving services, just because you do not take your time to get rid of the things you don’t actually need?
That’s right! Most people have so much useless stuff around their home, but they are not even aware of it.
And what happens when you have to move? You pack all this junk with everything else and you end up paying a lot more for moving services.

1. Become Aware
You cannot get rid of things that you don’t even know you have.
That means that you may have to go out of your way to figure out what you actually own and whether or not you need it.
In other words, you will need to do an inventory check.
The easiest way to go about it is room by room. Start with your storage places, like the attic, the basement, the garage and the closet.
These tend to house most of your useless stuff that you never get to take out once you put in there.
Some people find it hard to throw stuff out, especially if they have bought it with their hard earned money. We get that sentiment.
That is way you should try donating. Not only will you do some good by giving your unwanted items to people who may actually need them, but you will be cutting down on stuff for you next move as well.
Just make sure that the things you want to donate are actually useful. Old torn clothes, overly used bedsheets and random items with no apparent value may not be a suitable choice for donations.
3. Try Craigslist
A good alternative to donating may be selling your items on Craigslist. As the saying goes “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”
You never know what other people may find valuable. This also goes for the things that may be unsuitable for donation.
Try putting them on Craigslist before you throw them out. Selling items at second hand auctions can also bring you extra money.
