Ajanta Caves

Aurangabad, India

These are about 30 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BCE to about 480 or 650 CE. These caves have Paintings and Sculptures of Lord Buddha and Depictions of the Jataka tales now considered as Masterpieces of Buddhist religious art.According to Ancient Literature these caves were Buddhist Monasteries having large emphasis on teaching, and were divided into several different caves for living, education and worship, under a central direction. The Ajanta caves has been declared UNESCO World Heritage Site and tourists from around the globe visit here.
