This is a group of about 200 ancient shrines, located on the north-western slope of a range of hills about 25 km from Morena Town. They are spread over an area of 10 hectares in the Chambal ravines. The Temple-complex is mainly dedicated to Shiva. The Temples are made of sandstone and belong to 8th-10th century. The gateways, stepped tanks and brahmanical icons of exquisite form are archaeological wonders here. The architecture style was late Gupta-early Pratihara and was built 300 years before the Khajuraho Temples. The Temple-complex was in ruins but excellent restoration work by ASI (in a dacoit- infested area!) has returned it to its lost grandeur.
