Located at 30 January Marg this Museum is also known as Birla House and was established as autonomous body on September 1984 under the supervision of Government of India. This museum is divided into two sections namely “The Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti” and “The International Centre of Gandhian Studies and Research”. The main purpose of starting this Samiti was to displayabout the life, works, mission and vision of Mahatma Gandhi with the help of various educational, cultural and social events organized within and by this Samiti. In early days this place was a very huge Mansion of eminent Indian Business Head, ‘Birla’ and it was at this mansion where Mahatma spent the last 144 days of his life, beginning from 9th September 1947 till 30th January 1948 when he was assassinated. A Martyr pillar has been erected at the place where Mahatma Gandhi was shot. Visitors here can go to the Audio Visual media section which showcases the life and ideas of father of the nation, the educational section where books and literature about the life and freedom movement can be seen and then there is the Service section which has been created to organize activities and events for people who wish to learn more about the mission and vision of Mahatma Gandhi. This museum also has sculptures, figures, paintings, art work and stone inscriptions relating to the Mahatma.
