Hemis Monastery also known as Hemis Gompa was built during the reign of King Sengge Namgyal in 1630.There are two main portions of the monastery, namely Tshongkhang and Dukhang.The main attraction for the visitors is the beautiful wall paintings on the veranda of this Gompa depicting the ‘Kalachakra, the ‘Lords of the Four Quarters’ and the idol of Sakyamuni Buddha.
