Mutiny Memorial

New Delhi, India

Also known as Ajitgarh, this memorial is situated near Kashmiri Gate and was built in the memory of the soldiers, British and Indian, who fought and died during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Built in 1862 using the Gothic style in red sandstone, this structure has four tiers rising from an octagonal base and is surrounded by various placards on the walls engraved with names and ranks of the Soldiers who died fighting for British army against the enemies. On 25th year of India’s independence in 1972, Government of India erected a plaque on this site stating that the ‘enemy’ mentioned on the memorials were ‘immortal martyrs for Indian freedom’.
