Listed in the World Heritage Sites in 1987, Pattadakal is renowned for its group of exquisitely carved temples which belong to 8th century AD. The place consists of ten major temples; nine of which are Hindu and one is a Jain temple. Among the Hindu temples, some are built in Nagara and some in Dravidian style of architecture. The most eminenttemple is the Virupaksha Temple, built by Queen Lokamahadevi.
