Constructed atop a sandstone hill, this Fort overlooks the entire city of Raisen. As per historical records, from the 12th to the 15th Century, it was under various Hindu rulers, including Rajputs. However, Raisen Fort was captured by Sher Shah Suri in the year 1543. The third Nawab of Bhopal, Fiaz Mohammed Khan, captured this huge structure in 1760. It was always a major centre of administration, given its strategic location. Raisen Fort is a great example of religious diversity, as it houses both Temples and masjids within its sprawling complex. The water management system here is well renowned for its conservation practices.
