TajMahal is the most iconic and well-known structure of India. The name Taj Mahal means the crown of Palaces. This mausoleum, which is situated in Agra, was built in the 17th century by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his favorite wife, Mumtaj Mahal.Although there is no evidence to support this, it is said that after the completion of this magnificent structure, the hands of all the workers were cut off so that such structure could not be created ever again. It is also said that he was building his own tomb opposite to the Taj Mahal in black marble but was unable to do so due to mutiny by his son Aurangzeb.
This impressive structure, which was declared as world heritage site in 1983, is completely made up of white marble with intricate carvings on the walls and gates. This symbol of everlasting love shows the highest degree of craftsmanship and the only thing that lacks symmetry is the casket of Emperor himself which was added as an afterthought. Even the pool has been placed such that the water reflects the image of the Taj and makes it look even more regal. The material and artists came from as far as Persia and China. At least eight precious stones were used in its construction.
The structure is said to be an achingly beautiful symbol of love. This building has been a source of admiration and inspirations for everyone from across all generation and culture. The view of Taj Mahal, with river Yamuna flowing silently while the full moon shines down making the white marble shine even more than usual, has mesmerizing effects.
