This famous observatory was prepared by Maharaja Sawai Raja Jaisingh of Jaipur in the year 1719. Latitude Tropic of Cancer runs through the city of Ujjain, which helped make several astronomical observations. Many new instruments were set up in this observatory by Raja Jaisingh. The observatory also underwent renovation and reconstruction in the 1970’s and 80’s. More additions were made in 2004. Standing here, you can feel the advancements made by astronomers in India back in the 18th Century. It is certainly a moment to feel proud of the nation.
