After experiencing two consecutive losses, Mizzou is set to reverse its fortunes on Friday night against Illinois in the annual Braggin’ Rights showdown in St. Louis.
Mizzou, with a current record of 5-2, faced defeat against Seton Hall in Kansas City last Sunday, just a week after putting up a strong fight but ultimately falling to No. 2 Kansas.
Meanwhile, No. 13 Illinois (8-2) secured a victory against Colgate on Sunday, bouncing back from their previous loss to No. 17 Tennessee the week before.
Interestingly, last year’s scenario was somewhat comparable, featuring an unranked Mizzou team against the 16th-ranked Illini. In that contest, the Tigers emerged victorious in a dominant fashion.
Notably, Mizzou has dominated the recent matchups with Illinois, winning four out of the last five encounters.

The scoring leaders for Mizzou include Sean East (17.1 points per game), Nick Honor (12.5), and Noah Carter (11.7). On the Illinois side, Terrence Shannon Jr. leads with an impressive 20.9 points per game, followed by Marcus Domask at 11.8.
It’s worth noting that East, Carter, and Domask have previously faced each other in the Missouri Valley Conference. Domask played for SIUC from 2019-23, Carter for Northern Iowa from 2019-22, and East spent a year at Bradley (2020-21).
