Although next year’s Oscars might feel like a long way off, speculation has already begun as to which movies might be in contention of winning top awards. ‘A Star is Born’ is one such movie, which will remain in the awards conversation all the way until the Oscars in February.
Lady Gaga making her first movie debut has also created the hype for this movie even bigger. Will her acting prowess live up to her singing talent?
“A Star Is Born” is a successful re-imagining of a timeless story—with a modern flare, and it just not a stale remake of an old film last told in the 1970s. This movie has everything: a swept-off-your-feet romantic fantasy, an underdog-makes-good journey, and a wrenching substance abuse drama.
Bradley Cooper, in his directorial debut, manages to effortlessly take a love story and bring it into the current day with the perfect combination of wit, raw emotion, and transcendent music.
The story is simple enough. Lady Gaga brilliantly tackles the part of insecure Ally, who works a service industry day job and performs when she can at a local drag bar, but she dreams of making it in the music industry. Jackson Maine played by Bradley Cooper is a rugged, well-known rock musician hell-bent on self-destruction, his life changes when he meets and subsequently falls in love with Ally, who is a wannabe superstar singer in her own right.
A Star Is Born is a perfect film about love, music and dreams, and it hits the viewer all at once. It’s heartfelt, well-paced, and gut-wrenchingly tragic film. Cooper and Lady Gaga are both utterly mesmerizing in the movie. It’s a piece of entertainment that takes you on an emotionally devastating roller coaster of a journey that exhilarates as much as it devastates.
There have been many such stories about the ephemeral nature of fame and success in showbiz, but none has made an indelible impact quite like this movie.
This movie is a total emotional knockout, but it’s also a movie that gets you to believe, at every step, in the complicated rapture of the story it’s telling. According to some predictions and those who have interests in Oscars betting sites, “A Star is Born” is the front-runner to win many awards at the 91st Academy Awards.
