Xiaomi’s First Car: 5 Key Takeaways
- Xiaomi’s Electric Car Entry
- Collaboration with BAIC Group
- Distinctive Features
- Unified Ecosystem with HyperOS
- HyperOS Speculation
Renowned for its flagship Android smartphones and budget-friendly devices, Xiaomi is venturing into the electric car market in China with its upcoming release, the Xiaomi SU7 car series.
The company has filed for a sales license in China, revealing design and specifications through a regulatory filing with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
Collaborating with Beijing-based BAIC Group, Xiaomi is developing the SU7 and SU7 Max electric cars.
These vehicles share similarities but differ in battery technology and top speed, with the SU7 reaching 210kmph and the SU7 Max at 265kmph.
Notable distinctions include weight, with the SU7 at 1,980kg and the SU7 Max at 2,205kg.
The Xiaomi SU7 boasts dimensions of 4,997 x 1,963 x 1,455 mm (1,440mm without the LiDAR sensor), offering two powertrain options: RWD with a 220kW motor and AWD with a 275kW + 220kW motor setup. The wheelbase spans 3,000mm.
The SU7 Pro variant is also in the works, evident from the badging in available images, although detailed specifications remain undisclosed.
A significant feature of the Xiaomi SU7 and SU7 Pro is their integration into Xiaomi’s unified ecosystem, aligning with the “Human X Car X Home” guiding principles.
Central to this is Xiaomi’s HyperOS, a human-centric operating system designed to connect personal devices, cars, and smart home products within a smart ecosystem.
While the regulatory listing doesn’t explicitly confirm HyperOS in the SU7, indications strongly suggest its presence.
It’s important to note that HyperOS, although unified in branding, may not necessarily mirror the operating system found on Xiaomi smartphones.
The system comprises “HyperOS Mobile” and “HyperOS IoT,” leaving room for speculation regarding its implementation in the smart car.
Nonetheless, the prospect of a smartphone-centric car experience under the HyperOS umbrella generates anticipation.
