What do you dislike?

I didn’t notice any downsides but I can say must of the time we need to use third-party plugins for additional things like selling custom digital products with some token inserted. If all these features have included then It would be even better.

Pros: WordPress itself is offered for free as an open source tool (although they do also sell hosting plans and domain names if required). Its website administration portal is very easy to navigate and contains a wealth of help and support information in case you get stuck. There is a large collection of free website layout templates available that can be customised to your liking, as well as a large stock of free user-created plugins in order to add additional functionality to your website (for instance adding custom maintenance pages or contact forms). You can use the WordPress mobile app to manage your website, view visitor statistics, and post to your website.

Cons: Although WordPress itself is freely available to create websites with as an open source tool, they do also sell website hosting plans and domain names on their website; their pricing, however, is not as competitive compared to other website hosting companies such as GoDaddy or Wix. Recent updates to WordPress include a new post editing interface called ‘Gutenberg’, which is a radical redesign that may not sit well with those who have experience with and are used to the traditional editing interface of previous versions. Website layouts are somewhat basic using stock design layouts, this can be improved upon by purchasing layout modifying plugins.

Overall: WordPress’s freely available website builder has allowed us to create a feature-filled website to which we can add, remove, or change information at a whim through quick access via computer or mobile to the website administration portal. Users can manage or post using both the web interface and the mobile app, which was incredibly useful to us. It has helped us achieve an online presence at a fraction of the cost compared to other platforms.

What do you like best?

Among the major plug-and-play website builders (Wix, Weebly, WordPress, etc) I firmly believe Squarespace is the most aesthetically pleasing and probably the second easiest to implement (Wix can’t be beat there). Squarespace is built as an all-in-one platform that can handle blogs, e-commerce, domain hosting, all of that with minimal work from the user. Granted, that means that sometimes you are limited in customization, but if you want full control of customization you’re probably using WordPress anyway. In a single platform, I was able to set up my website, set up my domain ownership, global settings, and more in just a few hours.

What do you dislike?

My biggest pet peeve with Squarespace is that features and options are template-specific: some layouts, for example, are only available to a couple of their dozens of templates. The template I used, in fact, does not support one of the features I was most looking for, but there was no way for me to know that until I was at the point of implementation (unless some other user had pointed it out on the help center first). To me, something as simple as a “Search” button/bar at the top of the page should be a basic object, but for my template it was a weird workaround page that doesn’t even work right or allow for advanced searches. Perhaps at more advanced levels, some features could be template-specific, but the fact that a search bar is only native to 6 or so out of all of their templates is mind boggling to me.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I’m using it as my blogging site. It is easy to use (for the most part – see above) and while slightly more expensive than its competitors it makes things easy to set up and manage especially if you don’t have tons of time for back-end or are unfamiliar with it.

Overall: Overall, this would be my go-to platform to build a fast and easy website for any friends who need something great looking but manageable with little experience or learning curve.

Pros: The best thing about Weebly is the simplicity of building a very professional looking website with little or no site-building experience. If WordPress is out of reach for you but you need a solid professiona looking site for your small business, Weebly is the way to go. I built several websites for other companies in the past using this platform with the idea that they can then manage it themselves without any technical knowledge. This was the perfect platform for this and among other similar platforms definitely seemed to be the easiest to use.

Cons: There definitely is a ceiling of what you can do with this platform. From there you will want to move to something more advanced like WordPress. This isn’t necessarily a knock on Weebly though, they never designed it to be a WordPress rival in general.

What do you like best?

User interface is intuitive, user management is clean and integrates into Okta. Storage prices are reasonable for a cloud based system. Metrics on the back end help content marketers. Overall, a really helpful DAM tool that is being constantly improved and updated. There are some great modules that are available as add-ons as well. We use the Workflow and Brand assets modules and it really helps keep our org aligned with one powerful place for all assets.

What do you dislike?

When we have issues or find errors it can take a few days to engage Bynder and get their help solving the issue. Most of the issues revolve around strange file types and the auto-encoding process on the back-end. We’ve also had problems with larger file sizes (25GB or bigger). A bit of a learning curve for admins and power users on the back-end.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Telling our story as an org is important. And our creative teams do a wonderful job. But that’s useless unless we have a powerful tool to actually deliver those assets to marketing teams in easy, intuitive, and quick ways. A DAM tool should not slow down content usage, but rather improve the content marketing experience. I feel Bynder does this. Also, the metrics on the back-end really help us see usage trends, e.g. should we keep telling a certain story or keep making a kind of content. It’s really informed our content creation.

What do you like best?

Pantheon’s automation is the best. Pantheon’s dashboards and the isolation between dev, test, and production environments let us stage changes for public, client review. Then, once the client approves the changes, it’s only one click to deploy. It’s also one-click for most Drupal core upgrades.

Pantheon is also high performance — they somehow handle varnish caching automatically without getting in my way.

What do you dislike?

Pantheon has had some high-profile outages and data loss lately. Adding insult to injury, their response to these outages has not been handled well. As a long-time customer of Pantheon, during these outages I didn’t feel like Pantheon really cared what impact the outage had on my business. They also made several promises to follow-up and keep us informed that they didn’t follow through on.

Separately, we are finding it difficult to integrate Pantheon into a larger multi-cloud, micro-services architecture. We wish there was an easier way for sites hosted on Pantheon to communicate with our private clouds without going over the public internet.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Pantheon’s process fits right into our existing installation-profile-based continuous integration process. We build large, business-logic-heavy Drupal sites, and the the Pantheon hosting system is the first system we’ve used that fully supports our version-control-driven deployment process. Internally, we use a continuous integration server that uses Drupal Installation Profiles, Drush, GIT, and Aegir to build an entire site from scratch and then deploy it. Pantheon’s GIT-based deployments fit perfectly with this approach.

The automatic backups also allow us to slide back to previous releases of sites, if things go badly.

Pros: Sitefinity has strengths surrounding template management, document management, and page creation. The drag-and-drop capabilities are very useful, and are easy to brand with HTML and CSS. Our team uses this CMS for both of our corporate websites, and use multi-site management to switch from each site. If you are managing multiple websites, this is a great feature.

Cons: Publishing pages, and making significant changes to the website can often slow it down for a couple of minutes, or take some time to initialize. Not a big deal, but visitors during that time will be greeted with a “Initializing” message.

Overall: It manages our site content very well, and provides the level of analytics we need.

What do you like best?

Our content creators love the intuitive user interface and how quick it is to update content. Contentful is by far the best in this regard, compared to the other platforms we trialled.

Our technical team loved how quickly there were able to get started, thanks to the great JavaScript SDK and simple content modelling. The Content Delivery API is fast and reliable, it’s been a key factor in bringing our average page load time down 70%.

As a NFP with a number of touch points, Contentful has been a game changer. We finally have a single repository for content that all of our sites and apps can pull from.

What do you dislike?

I really don’t have many complaints but my one bug bear is that I wish the rich text editor had a few more options. We’ve had to come up with a few workarounds for things like superscript and subscript. It would also be great if we could embed Youtube videos, as you can with the markdown editor.

What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

When we started our project, we had 3 main things we wanted to address:

– Avoid duplication of content across our platforms

– Be less brittle (i.e. allow our content creators to make changes without breaking anything)

– Reduce development overhead

Contentful has exceeded our expectations in meeting all of these requirements, can’t speak highly enough about the platform.

Accounts payables invoice processing is a paper-intensive process. We have a shared service center which processes about 1500 invoices a day. We were looking for a scalable solution and Oracle Fusion Payables with WebCenter solved the problem.

WebCenter content can extract index and archive the data. As per regulatory requirements, we are supposed to store all AP invoices for 7 years. We were storing them physically in cabinets in the office. With the current real estate boom, we were spending a significant amount on rentals. With WebCenter Content, these invoices can be stored, indexed and archived in the cloud. This frees up space in our office and saves money. Our auditors also loved this as data is organized in a much better way and it can be easily retrieved with a click of the button.

Quick and easy onboarding.The easy access to all our sites and content. All sites managed in one central place. Wonderful to be able to setup multiple environments that can be published to for instance QA, PPE and Production.

What do you dislike?

That asset URL’s change when a document is updated. Would be great to keep the URL the same. So that it does not have to be updated for files changing on a monthly/weekly basis. Changing asset URL’s lead to allot of redirects etc being required as the links get used in emails, sites, app etc.

What do you like best?

The support from Solodev is outstanding! Their team of dedicated professionals is highly responsive to emails and prompt to resolve issues. They listen to concerns and needs. I’m especially appreciative of their willingness to show corrective steps taken – so you can learn as you go along. They treat all levels of CMS knowledge with kindness, patience and respect. They also bring helpful ideas and solutions to the table.

What do you dislike?

Navigation and layout isn’t always intuitive and the site is not as user-friendly as WordPress. Solodev recently made upgrades – some good, some bad: Being able to drop and drag photos for uploading is a notable improvement as is the updated layout. Other features I frequently used and relied on were removed, for example the button for embedding a YouTube video – it now requires the video to be added through Source.
