Jonathan Chritchley, who was born in London, took this hypnotic picture in Honshu, Japan. He said: ‘This is a temple by a lake on the island of Honshu, in Japan. It was three in the afternoon, on one of those murky, misty days I like so much. It was very still, and there was no wind. I originally tried to find a shot with just the temple, but although that was nice, it was just not interesting enough – it wasn’t really “doing it” for me. But further along the coast of the lake, I spotted these trees overhanging the water, and I shot a bit wider, and managed to find a branch that was pointing in exactly the right direction. I wanted to bring out the reflection of the hut, and I found that 10 seconds was just enough to keep that reflection’
