Top 5 Loneliest Roads In The World For A Wacky And Wonderful Weekend

Highway

Nowadays, motorists are so tied down to cruising around some of the busiest roads in the world that we can only wonder what it’d feel like to venture to the loneliest roads around.

With how far automotive technology has come to this day, it’s much easier for us to forget about the quiet roads and become unappreciative of the peace and quiet a lonely road can bring.

Meanwhile, here are a few roads to consider for a wacky and wonderful weekend away this year.

1. Dalton Highway – Alaska

Dalton Highway – Alaska

Over in Alaska, there’s a road that stretches 414 miles from start to finish and despite being built over 40 years ago, remains amongst the most unpopular, loneliest routes in the world. Why? It might have more to do with the fact that it’s covered in sheer ice and snow, too.

There’s not many roads around the world that are as tough to travel across than the Dalton Highway, with temperature plummeting below minus 60 degrees Celsius – no human could withstand those conditions, let alone your car.

2. D915 – Turkey

D915 – Turkey

Considering the ever-winding twists and turns of the D915 road in Turkey, it’s no wonder people avoid taking this road to their destination.

If you’re prepared to and don’t mind driving 65 miles of short turns, narrow dust and steep uphill roads, then you’re in for a treat with this road; that is to say if you don’t mind heights, too.

While the D915 can reach at least 24 degrees Celsius at times, it can also plummet below 14 Celsius, which can often become unbearable for drivers tackling the 65-mile-long, ‘in the middle of nowhere’ road.

3. Death Road – Bolivia

Death Road – Bolivia

Death Road is otherwise known as ‘El Camino de la Muerte’ and was built by Paraguayan prisoners in the early 1930s – hence the name. The road is currently used as a way for cars to travel from the Bolivian capital of La Paz to the town of Coriocco, with cars travelling in both directions despite the inadequate amount of space on the road.

Not only would you have to fully prepare yourself for this journey, but you’d also have to make sure you have a modern car that can withstand a lot of pressure and harsh conditions – otherwise, get ready to be in the most danger you could possibly imagine.

4. Highway 50 – Nevada

When cruising through a desert, there’s no greater feeling than knowing you’re by yourself, in the open and more importantly, you’re in total peace and quiet too. In Nevada, Highway 50 can often be too lonely, meaning too much silence and we all know that from time to time, silence can be the most deafening of all things known to man.

If you were to go there, you’d be faced with 408 miles of pure isolation and loneliness, so unless you have some company lined up, you’re in for a boring ride!

5. Trans Taiga – Canada

Trans Taiga – Canada

While you might find it rather tricky to keep your car in shape on normal roads used every day, the Trans Taiga in Canada features some of the worst road conditions in the world.

Essentially, the poor conditions are mostly the reason for its loneliness and is why drivers often avoid the risk if venturing across it and through the forest areas it contains.

It’s a real shame since there are so many wonderful, picturesque view to take in when driving the course of this Canadian road, but it’s just not worth the trouble to the majority.
