Omron Healthcare’s newest blood pressure monitor has all the trappings of the other smartwatches we’ve seen at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this year. You wear the device around your wrist, it displays the time, counts your steps and tracks your sleep.

But unlike the other wearables on display at CES, Omron insists that their product is first and foremost a blood pressure monitor.

2. A&D Medical Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor

517px-6QuyL

The A&D Medical UA-767F Premium Blood Pressure Monitor is an advanced digital BP machine that provides accurate and reliable results in an easy-to-use device. This device is clinically validated for accuracy to meet the international protocol set by the European Society of Hypertension and automatically checks your blood pressure and stores the results for you in memory – up to 60 measurements per user (up to 4 users).

Because this blood pressure monitor allows for multiple users, the cuff is designed to fit most people (cuff fits 8.6″ to 16.5″ arms). Simply slide on your arm, adjust, and follow the instructions in the manual. The pump uses gentle inflation to help make taking your blood pressure as comfortable as possible.

Other features include an Irregular Heartbeat Detector and a Pressure Rating Indicator that shows if your readings are high, low, or normal (according to standard guidelines). The cuff fit error message and the body movement sensor help prevent inaccurate measurements. Included in the blood pressure monitoring kit are the blood pressure monitoring device, the wide range blood pressure cuff, and an instruction manual. Runs on four (4) AA batteries (included) or an AC adapter (available separately).

Review: wirecutter

With a comfortable cuff and easy readability, the A&D UA-767F is the best available monitor we found. It fared well in our accuracy tests, comes with a case and an easy-to-read display, and is affordably priced compared with the leading competition.

It is also the only option we tested with the ability to store blood pressure readings for up to four people. The cuff can be tight on the arm, and the machine wasn’t the quietest of the models we tested, but those were minor issues in an otherwise reliable and user-friendly monitor.

Note, though, that the A&D UA-767F lacks the ability to transfer data to your phone or computer via Bluetooth. We are currently conducting new testing of monitors with this ability, and we hope to recommend one soon.

The hope, according to Omron, is that the easier-to-use and less conspicuous devices will convince patients with hypertension to change poor behavior patterns and monitor their blood pressure more often. In a perfect world, this would decrease preventable instances of heart attack and stroke.

Project Zero is as accurate as any doctor’s machine—within +/- 3 millimeters of mercury, in fact—and have been cleared with the FDA. Both wrist band and arm cuff are set to launch at the end of 2016. The watch will be priced at $200 or less, while the upper arm device will run about $100 or less.

Smartphone prices are rising, but smartwatches remain accessories we don’t really need. Yes, you won’t need to pull out the phone out of a pocket as much, but most people may not want to pay $400 or even $350 for that luxury. At $200, however, a smartwatch is much more tempting. Samsung’s latest Galaxy Watch Active is a smaller version of last year’s Galaxy Watch, and it won’t break the bank.

It doesn’t have the long battery life of the Galaxy Watch, and its screen isn’t as big, but you’re getting many of the same great features. The compromises Samsung made to cut the price from $350 to $200 aren’t deal breakers, and you’ll find the Galaxy Watch Active still offers everything you’d need out of a smartwatch.

Review: BEST ADVISOR

Automatic blood pressure monitors are usually not the cheapest ones and might cost times more than manual counterparts. Of course, health is wealth, and the accuracy and convenience of automatic models make a strong case for investment. However, sometimes customers seek basic functionality and reliability rather than smart and technological odds that usually bump up the price. Need affordable functionality in automatic format? If so, then the Omron BP710N should be down your alley.

What you will like about this model most is its no-frills foolproof design and ease of use. A wide cuff will perfectly fit arms of different sizes. Whether you have small, standard, or large hands, it will sit snugly and comfortably. Just like all upper arm tonometers by Omron, the BP710N features a built-in compressor that automatically inflates the cuff to the optimal tension level. This allows it to deliver accurate results with no risks of errors.

Review: Larry D. Madill Jr.

I lift weights and my arms are bigger than the average cuff size. Omron’s cuffs stop at 17 and my arms are about 17.5 to 18 inches, so whenever I tested my bp at home my systolic tended to be higher than my doctor’s machine (he uses the commercial grad Omron that has larger cuff sizes not available to civilians). This machine does a much better job of it and is consistent .
