It’s a given that if you’re in college and serious about your work, you’re going to be stressed about something. It’s just a part of going to school and the experience of being on your own for the first time ever.

Having stress is normal, but being stressed is something you can control, because severe bouts can lead to everything from health problems to drug addiction and alcohol abuse.

If you know someone or have a problem with drug addiction or alcohol abuse due to the stress of college, please get help at one of the many drug detox programs available today. There are also plenty of other ways to reduce tension and get it down to at least a manageable level.

1. Live a Healthy Lifestyle

Being healthy and living a healthy lifestyle can be hard when you’re cramming for tests and trying to have a social life at the same time.

Many students feel that the way to avoid stress is by avoiding having a social life, but that simply isn’t true. Having friends is as important as getting enough sleep and studying for tests.

The trick is to strike a healthy balance between all of these activities and once you do, you will find your stress levels lower than they have ever been before.

2. Eat Right

Eating Mindfully

Eating the way that you should is rough when you’re a college student. Fast food, late night snacks, noodles, and a whole lot of coffee are common when you’re in school.

It’s extremely important to add veggies, fruits, and a vitamin supplement to your diet. Eating healthy helps energize you and when you eat healthy, you’ll soon realize it’s an easy way to lower stress levels as well.

3. Indulge in Some Quiet Time

Most students are always in a hurry to be somewhere, whether it’s rushing to make it to class, home to study, or out for a quick cup of coffee with friends.

It’s important to realize that you need to indulge in some quiet time as well to reduce anxiety. Personal space in college is rare, because chances are you’ll end up sharing an apartment or a dorm room with someone else.

Try to find a quiet place to unwind at least once a week, with no cell phone, school books or friends. You’ll be surprised how relaxed you’ll feel when those quiet hours are over. It’s a simple thing, but an impactful one.

4. Don’t be Afraid to Ask for Help

Everyone knows that college life can be overwhelming, that includes your teachers, parents, and other students as well. They’re there to support you if you need the help, all you have to do is ask.

You don’t have to do everything yourself when it comes to dealing with college, and knowing that will help your anxieties more than anything else!

These are just a few of the best ways to relax when you’re a struggling college student. Being stressed is a normal part of life, but staying stressed doesn’t have to be.
