On Monday, Apple unveiled iOS 17, following its “Wonderlust” event held just a week after the introduction of the iPhone 15, Apple Watch Series 9, and Apple Watch Ultra 2.

This latest operating system introduces several enhancements, including the noteworthy StandBy mode. However, one of the most remarkable additions is the capacity of iOS 17 to transform your photos and live photos into personalized Live Stickers.

Live Stickers represent an advancement from iOS 16’s tap-and-lift photo feature, which allowed users to remove backgrounds from their photos and live photos.

Here are the steps to create Live Stickers in iOS 17:

  1. Open Messages on your iPhone.
  2. Access any text conversation and tap the plus sign (+) located next to the text field.
  3. Choose “Stickers.”
  4. Tap the folded-over circle found near the top-right corner of the Stickers app.
  5. Select the prominent plus sign (+), which will open your Photos.
  6. Pick the desired photo or live photo you wish to convert into a sticker. Your iPhone will automatically remove the background from the photo.
  7. If you’re satisfied with the sticker, tap “Add Sticker” in the bottom-right corner of your screen.

Your Live Sticker will automatically appear in the Stickers app within Messages, offering you the flexibility to Rearrange, Add Effects, or Delete it.

Opting for “Add Effect” allows you to apply various effects, such as a white outline, giving your sticker an authentic sticker-like appearance.

Apple states that you can use your newly created Live Sticker wherever you can access emojis, even across different Apple devices not running iOS 17. However, there are some limitations to consider.

While experimenting with Live Stickers in third-party apps like Slack, I encountered a challenge where the sticker acquired a white background.

Additionally, in certain third-party applications like TikTok, accessing Live Stickers posed difficulties.

Therefore, it’s important to be aware that using Live Stickers outside of Apple’s native apps and devices may present some compatibility issues.
