Mira Sorvino was born on September 28, 1967, in New York City to actor and director Paul Sorvino and Lorraine, an Alzheimer’s patient drama therapist. She has two brothers, Amanda and Michael, and her father’s side is of Italian descent.

During her teenage years, Sorvino grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey, writing scripts with her childhood friend Hope and acting in her backyard. She also appeared in theater productions at the academically excellent Dwight Englewood School.

Sorvino enrolled at Harvard University and studied abroad in Beijing, China for a year as an exchange student.

As a result, she became fluent in Mandarin Chinese. In 1989, he graduated cum laude from Harvard University with a degree in East Asian Studies.
