2020 Academy Award Nominations

January 22nd, 2020   |   Updated on February 12th, 2022

The nominations for 92nd Academy Awards were announced on Monday 20th January 2020. As expected, Joker leads the list with nearly 11 nominations in different categories. The best picture category has many contenders and some of them are Ford vs Ferrari, The Irishman, Joker, Jojo Rabbit, Little women, 1917, Once upon a time in Hollywood, Marriage story and Parasite.

Even though there have been claims of reducing the gender divide in the industry this year too no women director got a place in the best director category. Actress Isaa Rae who obviously did not like this when she announced the names with actor John Cho mentioned it “Congratulations to all those men.”

Scarlett Johnson has achieved the impossible with two nominations as the best actress and best supporting actress for “Marriage story” and “Jojo Rabbit.” On the other hand, Cynthia Erivo also got nominated in the best actress category and for best song i.e. “Stand Up” for her movie “Harriet.
