Heading off to your dream destination can be fun and exciting, however, the part where you have to get on a cramped bus or wait for overly-priced taxis can be almost every tourist’s nightmare.

That’s why renting a car while travelling can be your ideal solution as it gives you flexibility and freedom to go wherever you want at a cheaper price compared to the other modes of transportation.

Although you need to take some necessary precautions, especially if you’re going to a new country, and you have no idea about their traffic.

For instance, visiting Brisbane or any other glamorous city of Australia, you shouldn’t fear much going behind the wheel of a rental car as the traffic controllers there are professionally trained and even construction workers who work on roads are obliged to take a traffic control course to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and ensure that everyone is safe.

Get Cheap Rates

If you’re renting a car for the first time, you may not be well aware that airports offer a hefty price to cover up for their luxurious shop location rent.

Although it may seem like the most convenient option when you land at the airport, you can find better rates from the local shops down a few lanes.

Also, keep in mind, the sooner you book, the lower the rates will be for car rental. So, ensure you’re ahead of time for the booking.

Say No To Gas Prepayment

When you are returning the car, you will be required to return it with a full gas tank. Your car rental agent may ask you to consider prepaying for gas, and you should immediately turn down the offer.

Instead, you should fill the gas tank yourself before returning the car, as the agents will try to charge you more for gas while you can get it at an average price yourself.

Consider Getting An Insurance

When you’re renting a car abroad on a trip, it’s always sensible to prepare for any unforeseen situations ahead of time.

Usually, the duration of your car rental is inversely proportional to the price you have to pay for the insurance per day. You can either get basic rental car insurance or a full coverage one.

Basic car insurance covers only against accidents and theft whereas full coverage insurance can also exempt your liability completely in an unfortunate event.

Getting A Rental Car Under 25

If you’re under the age of 25, and you want to add your name to the driver’s list of the car rental agreement, you are going to have to pay some extra fees for it. Your driving “pro-ness” level doesn’t matter in this case at all.

You can let go of these extra charges by not getting behind the wheel at all and let your travel partner who is older than 25 do this task. Well, in case you’re travelling solo, there’s not much you can do but to pay the fees.
