1. Networking Is Everything
The right connections aren’t just about services or getting a job. Networking will help to establish communications, share experiences and build your team in the future. Learning how to communicate is not difficult even for those who are not used to meeting people.
2. Start Getting To Know The People Around You
A roommate, a librarian, a lab technician in a department – all these people you will have to face for the next 4 years. Do not ignore them after getting acquainted: politeness and the ability to maintain an easy conversation will only bring benefits in the future.
If there will be close communication – for example, in a dormitory – try to get to know the person better, so you know how to interact with him or her.
Even if you don’t become friends, getting to know them intimately will help avoid many conflicts. If a person will ask you: ‘write essay for me, please’ help them. If this is not a problem for you, it’s a great way to make friends.
3. Attend Forums And Conferences
The university program involves not only studying with professors but also speaking at thematic events. Student forums are unlimited opportunities to meet people from the most remote corners of the country.
You are united by common interests, knowledge, and skills, which means that finding a common language and exchanging contacts will be very easy. Perhaps this is where you will meet your future colleagues who will recommend you.
4. Keep In Touch
Don’t forget to keep in touch with people you know. It’s not that hard: congratulate someone on a holiday in a social network, talk about the weather when you meet in person. If you keep a close eye on your contacts’ lives and write or call them regularly, you can keep useful contacts for years to come.
It’s much easier than rebuilding weakened ties with old acquaintances. Don’t forget that a rare acquaintance can come in handy momentarily.
Most likely, something useful from it can be learned only in a few months, or even years. If you accept this, it becomes especially clear why it is worth keeping old contacts.
5. Expanding The Boundaries
In the truest, geographic sense! There are plenty of opportunities to study abroad these days. As long as you’re eligible for them, it’s worth taking advantage of them.
After all, studying abroad is not only a change of university and familiarity with another’s education system. It is also new experiences, life in another country, and interesting acquaintances around the world.
6. Take Advantage Of Exchange Programs
If your university has international ties with other institutions, be sure to take part in an exchange program. The university reimburses all expenses, covers tuition and travel expenses.
You can study in another country for one semester or a full academic year. The subjects you have studied can be transferred back to your home institution, and you can learn a foreign approach to your major field of study.
Unfortunately, such a practice is not available to everyone. Small and private universities rarely support an exchange program, and large public universities may have restrictions on friendly universities and majors.
7. Apply For Support Programs
Many countries have assistance programs for international students. If you qualify, you can go to study in Europe, Canada, or the United States for free.
Many European universities support study abroad programs for students. Depending on the program, they may have different requirements, for example:
- Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees – the program includes European universities and accepts candidates with a college degree.
- Detacher Akademischer Austauschdienst – a program at German universities. It is open to persons with a Bachelor’s, Specialist’s or Master’s degree.
- Global Education is a state support program for future specialists. This program enables students to study in demanded professions in foreign higher educational establishments and then come back home to work for three years in the sponsoring companies.
There are similar programs in the USA, Turkey, Norway, Sweden, Italy, and many other countries. They fully reimburse the cost of education, travel, accommodation, transportation, and medical insurance. And at the time of departure from your university, you can take study leave, and the study will not have any problems.
