Google is developing a new feature called “Private Space” for Android 14 QPR2 Beta 1 that allows users to hide apps and data on their phones without the need for third-party apps.

The feature creates a separate user profile with a “private” sub-categorization, offering a more discreet way to keep certain apps and data hidden.

Users can unlock the Private Space feature with their screen lock, and it’s expected that more features and options will be added as the development progresses.

This approach is similar to existing features on HUAWEI and OPPO devices, where “Private Space” has been integrated into their skins for a while.

Unlike traditional app lockers, Private Space functions as a second user profile, making private apps and data not readily visible on the primary profile.

For example, on ColorOS, users can log into Private Space using a different fingerprint on the lock screen, and only the apps and data in the secondary profile are accessible.

This ensures a complete separation between private and primary profiles.

Google’s implementation of Private Space might follow a similar path, going beyond a simple lock screen for individual apps.

This differs from other UX skins like Samsung’s One UI, which has a Secure Folder but doesn’t create a separate user profile.

In contrast, Private Space aims to provide enhanced privacy by offering a more comprehensive and discreet solution for hiding apps and data.
