Jennifer Garner 'Peppermint' Trailer

Updated on March 30th, 2019

Five years after her husband and daughter are killed in a senseless act of violence, a woman comes back from self-imposed exile to seek revenge against those responsible and the system that let them go free.

An unidentified woman is engaged in a brutal fight with a man in a car and finally dispatches him with a shot to the head. Five years earlier, the same woman, Riley North, is working as a banker in Los Angeles struggling to make ends meet. Her husband Chris owns a failing mechanic shop. They have a ten-year-old daughter, Carly. Chris’ friend tries to talk him into robbing Diego Garcia, a powerful drug lord.

Chris turns him down, but not before Garcia has already discovered his involvement and ordered his men to make an example of him. Riley and Chris take Carly out for pizza and to a carnival for her birthday since no one showed up to her party. At the carnival, Carly orders peppermint ice cream. As the family walks to the car, Diego’s men gun down her husband and daughter in a drive-by shooting. She is wounded, but survives.

Movie Reviews: “Peppermint

Movie Review: San Diego Reader

After witnessing her husband Chris (Jeff Hephner) and daughter Carly (Cailey Fleming) succumb to a spray of Mexican gangsters’ bullets, Riley North (Garner) not only takes down the trio of thugs directly responsible for the slaughter, she personally exterminates every scumbag on L.A.’s skid row — and takes down a few audience members in the process. The title refers to the flavor of blood-stained ice cream cone that complements Carly’s last meal, although the reference in the trailer to “peppermint in her butt” didn’t make the final cut.

Before one drop of blood is shed, a precautionary measure is issued, as Riley warns her young daughter against the evils of threatening to punch someone’s lights in a Girl Scout cookie turf war at the supermarket entrance. It’s a setup for a gag that pays off in pettiness and shows our vigilante mom to be anything but admirable.

Movie Review: Rolling Stone

Anything Liam Neeson can do, Jennifer Garner can do better. At least that’s the premise of this hilariously awful, insanely hard-to-swallow action thriller from Taken director Pierre Morel. Turns out the only ones who’ll be taken by this shoddy rip-off are the audience. Peppermint stars Garner as Riley North, an overworked Los Angeles soccer mom turned vigilante when her husband (Jeff Hephner) and young daughter (Cailey Fleming) are gunned down by members of a drug cartel. The killers are set free thanks to a corrupt justice system paid off by kingpin Diego Garcia (Juan Pablo Raba), and Peppermint — North used to sell Girl Scout cookies, get it? — is set on a path to vengeance. After five years of ninja-style training, she returns to L.A. to exact justice for her slain family.

Movie Review: The New Yorker

Mediocre movies often appear and then disappear, as though they’d never been, but “Peppermint” (directed by Pierre Morel and written by Chad St. John), which opens today, leaves a trace of slime that’s hard to wipe up—and leaves the feeling that it would be better for the world at large if this movie hadn’t been
