Background

Robeisy Ramirez, the former two-time Olympic champion from Cuba, clinched the vacant WBO 126-pound title by decisively defeating Isaac Dogboe on April 1.

He then successfully defended his title by stopping Satoshi Shimizu in five rounds on July 25.

Despite a surprising split decision loss in his pro debut in August 2019, Ramirez has since claimed victory in 13 consecutive fights, including a shutout decision over Adan Gonzales in July 2020. Notably, Ramirez secured a gold medal victory against Shakur Stevenson in the 2016 Olympics.

His opponent, Rafael Espinoza, is a power puncher who has not fought outside his native Mexico since 2015.

Espinoza, currently ranked No. 10 by the WBO, has an impressive record of 21-0 with 18 knockouts. However, he has not faced an opponent of Ramirez’s caliber.

Espinoza has stopped his last five opponents, including a victory over Ally Mwerangi on July 15 in Mexico City.

The matchup promises to be an exciting clash between the skillful Ramirez and the hard-hitting Espinoza.
