Review: G2Crowd
UpSafe Google Account Backup protects your cloud data. If you exceed the free limit of 15Gb you will lose your emails and you won’t be able to create new files in Google Drive. If you share your files with others and they delete the data you need you will lose it forever.
The best solution is to backup your Google Account to another cloud.
UpSafe will automatically back up your Gmail and Drive every day to the cloud. We do not have any access to the original data, we only back up its copies. So if your Google Account is ruined, you can quickly restore your data with our simple user-friendly interface.
2. MiniTool ShadowMaker

Review: Minitool
It can recover files from partitions that have been treated with a quick format; also, it retrieves shift-deleted files. The wizard-like interface makes working with the application an effortless job.
3. CloudBerry Backup
Cloudberry is only the sixth-highest overall rated backup solution on G2 Crowd. But the tool has the highest satisfaction score among free backup solutions.
The company offers a free version of its cloud-based backup product, which provides up to 200 GB of private storage space to back up your information. This version of the backup offering does not include features for file compression, encryption and image-based backup.

What do you like best?
I love the easy to use User Interface and the way it guides you each step of the way with helpful tips on most screens. I use it to back up to Amazon S3 Cloudberry is great! It’s fast, efficient, and it just works! With it we can control everything including our own encryption, storage provider (on Azure or many others), scheduling, etc. for our business instead of going to a cloud not under our control. Cloudberry also supports file backups or full images. Cloudberry is extremely efficient at CPU & Drive usage and scheduling actually works. I like that I know what is going on with Cloudberry!
What do you dislike?
Only one issue: 1 issue, we had it set to Unlimited Threads, which was the amount of connections it made at first was locking up the old router at this location which was limited to 768 connections. Easily adjustable under the setting for the backup!
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Automated backups from my Server to Amazon S3 daily.
4. Altaro VM Backup
Altaro provides a backup solution similar to Veeam’s. It’s designed for virtual machines, including both Hyper-V and VMware. While it only covers two VMs per host, this backup solution is free forever.
The product provides disk space for quick restoration and SQL server backup. Some additional benefits include backup scheduling and VM Backup clones for backup maintenance.
Review: Capterra
Pros: Ease of use of the product, it is not a problem to use it for the first time and figure it out by yourself.
- Quick and reliable backup
- Possible to backup locally and externally.
- Quick support team.
Cons: Limited database and active directory recovery functionality. There is not version of the product that can be used for a physical machine to back it up completely.
Overall: Peace of mind that my backups and my client’s backups are well executed.
5. Veeam Availability Suite
Veeam is the highest-rated product overall in G2 Crowd’s backup software category. It doesn’t have the most reviews, nor the highest satisfaction. But it does have a large enough market presence and high enough scores to put it ahead of its competitors.
Veeam’s free backup solution is designed for VMware vSphere and Microsoft’s Hyper-V. The company also offers a Windows desktop Linux backup agent as well as community-powered offerings for Microsoft Office 365.
Review: G2crowd
What do you like best?
Setup is easy and you can set up to 48 points of replication, which is great for our time-sensitive systems that process money. Getting a system back up and running when the original VM has failed is also easy, and makes everyone’s life SO easy.
What do you dislike?
I haven’t found a way to push backups (full backups) to AWS or Azure yet via a plugin that exists somewhere, but I can’t find it. It would be nice if that plugin was easily available.
Recommendations to others considering the product
Figure out how much data you can lose, and make sure you spread out your replication points to meet that need. We do about every two hours, but only so we have a longer replication history to go back to.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
We have several high uptime servers that can’t be down…ever. Veeam allows us to quickly and easily get our setup back up and running in the event of a catastrophe. We have had to use it twice in the 3.5 years I have been here, but not since we upgrade our back end. One thing we realized our first time was that we weren’t setting enough replication points, which changed rather quickly once we realized this.
6. GoodSync Backup
GoodSync offers a free backup solution capable of storing 100 files and syncing data from three sources. It’s capable of a general file and synchronized data storage.
GoodSync’s free product still includes support for cloud services, end-to-end encryption and file server backup. It also includes a management console called GoodSync Explorer for remote access to files stored in the cloud.
Review: Capterra
Pros: This software is simply amazing! The user interface is easy to understand, no instructions needed. Simply browse to select folders. Sync in either direction, exclude specific files or file types.
Very easy to customize how to handle. Create multiple tabs allowing more specific customization of your back-up.
I do mine daily – onto a flash drive, and I have 4 tabs… one of which pulls files from another computer in my network at home. The cost is minimal, but the benefit is worth it’s weight in gold.
Cons: Nothing…. I have used it for 15 years now… only wish I discovered it before then!
Overall: If your hard drive crashes, you are screwed… unless you back up regularly. Good Sync only updates the most recent file. There is no need to resave a file that has not changed, so the process is very fast.
7. Opendrive
OpenDrive is a file backup solution with a free version capable of storing up to 5 GB of data. The free offering provides backup automation and online management capabilities.

What do you dislike?
We wish OpenDrive also offered file versioning at their individual plan level, but that isn’t a deal breaker for us. One conceivable deal breaker for some companies might be the fact that they don’t offer an unlimited storage plan.

8. Vembu BDR Suite
Vembu offers a backup solution capable of supporting virtual machines, Windows servers, workstations, networks and endpoints. The tool itself is free, but the company does charge scalable fees for managed cloud storage.
Essentially, the product is free if you supply your own storage hardware or server, but not if you’re looking to sync your data for online access. The only version of their offering that doesn’t include a free edition is Vembu SaaSBackup. That tool is designed for G Suite and Office 365 data storage.
Review: TrustRadius
Use Cases and Deployment Scope
It is used by the IT department to back up all of our server VMs. It addresses the business problems of disaster recovery and continuity.
Pros and Cons
- User-friendly web UI
- Ease of setting up a backup VM
- Responsive customer service
- Cryptic error messages that can be hard to troubleshoot
- Licensing requirements can be difficult to understand
- More information on what is fixed in releases would be helpful
- Likelihood to Recommend
Well-suited:
The Vembu BDR suite solution is simple and robust and is fairly easy to install and administer backups for a VMWare environment.
Dislike:
An earlier backup product had features to keep a backup on local disk but this feature is missing in the Vembu BDR Suite.

Review: G2crowd
What do you like best?
I love when you buy an appliance that you don’t have to worry about individual server licences. only limited to space on your appliance. Support is always there to help. Our local company that sells Unitrends offers training every so often, so really nice to talk to others and learn best practices. Networking with out users of the products really helps feel better about the product.
What do you dislike?
Come out with updated hardware a little faster. We are on the 3 year free hardware replacement. Hoped to get updated equipment, but will be getting exact same hardware.
Recommendations to others considering the product
Support has always been there when I need them. It has served me well through 2 appliances I have purchased from them.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
It can backup any platform needed so far via VMware or Physical server. Being able to backup legacy operating systems is key. We have some old system we are unable to update but are still need to rely on. It has saved me a when our phone system went down. They even had added a feature that was automatically turned on that saved use loosing more data.
10. IDrive Online Backup
IDrive is another backup solution designed for personal file storage. The free version of the company’s personal backup solution includes 5 GB of free storage with no expiration.
It also includes all of the capabilities of the paid personal solution such as continuous backup, remote backup management and express restoration. Users can also collaborate via email and sync their computers or web applications to their storage.
Review:
The Good
- Free disk-shipping data-transfer option
- Fast upload speeds
- Backs up mobile devices
- Keeps old file versions forever
- Generous syncing option
The Bad
- No unlimited storage option
- Slow restoration process
Verdict
IDrive is best for anyone who has multiple machines to back up. Just keep an eye on the 2TB or 5TB storage limit.

Review: G2Crowd
What do you like best?
Ease of use, install and backup data to the cloud.
What do you dislike?
Not great for backing up databases, such as Exchange or SQL. Best fit for smaller environments (1-2 servers).
Recommendations to others considering the product
If you require a backup software for data, Mozy charges based on space. This is not a great solution if you have a very large set of data as you will pay for it to upload to the cloud. That being said, if you’re a small shop with “average” data, this tool will automatically backup all data effortlessly.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
The software is great for backing up data and replicating it in real time to the cloud. It does not do a great job with databases or bare metal restoration of servers. Best fit for smaller companies but is very easy to implement and administer.
12. EaseUS Todo Backup
EaseUS Todo Backup Free lets you create backups of your important files or your entire computer through its streamlined interface. Just choose the type of backup you’d like to create to get started, and let the program do the rest.
The free version of EaseUS Todo Backup free has almost all the features of the premium edition. You can still run backups on a schedule, but lose the ability to have these backups triggered by various events – not something most people will miss. The same goes for command line-driven backups, PC-to-PC data transfer, and Outlook backup; they’re all nice to have, but their absence is unlikely to be a deal-breaker.
Review: Capterra
On-premise backup management platform that enables businesses, IT technicians and other service providers to help clients recover lost data from the hard drive while ensuring secure data transfer.

13. Cobian Backup
It can backup to some other location in the same computer, to the network and even to an FTP server. The program supports compression and encryption.
Review: Techradar
Recognizing that most people will have varying types of data that they want to back up in different ways with varying frequencies, the program allows for the creation of multiple backup jobs. Each of these can have different settings – such as different files, different backup locations, different encryption and security settings – and each can be automatically run on its own schedule.

16. Google Drive
Google Drive isn’t a traditional backup tool by any means, it is cloud-based and just what you are able to back up will depend on how much online Google storage you have available.
For backing up key files and folders, however, it’s superb. You can easily specify any number of folders for the software to monitor, and any changes, additions or deletions are implemented near-instantaneously.
Review: Pcmag
Part productivity suite and part file-syncing, online storage, and backup service, the reasonably priced Google Drive also provide excellent collaborative office-suite functionality.
You can see the two backed-up computers in the web interface below the main My Drive folder, in this case an iMac and a Windows laptop.

17. FileFort Backup
FileFort Backup lets you back up files to a BKZ file, self-extracting EXE file, ZIP file, or a regular mirror backup that simply copies the files to the destination.
A wizard walks you through the backup process to help you specify what files should be backed up and where they should go. You can back up multiple folders and/or individual files to an external drive, CD/DVD/Blu-ray, network folders, or another folder on the same drive as the source files.
Review: Cnet
It’s no secret we’re big fans of backups. Frequent and thorough, data and system, partial and full; we just can’t get enough of them (is that possible?) but our enthusiasm is based on hard-won experience. NCH’s FileFort Backup Software is a free backup utility that creates full and incremental backups. It doesn’t create a system image, so it’s not a substitute for a full backup solution that can completely restore your system to a new disk, if necessary.

You can create a new backup job by selecting libraries, bookmarks and emails, as well as custom locations on your hard drive.
