  • Upcoming South Africa Series

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the Indian cricket team, has had his contract extended until the conclusion of the Twenty20 World Cup, effective immediately.

This extension, confirmed after negotiations between Dravid and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), allows him to accompany the T20 team to South Africa, with departure as early as December 5.

The duration of the extension has been set until the end of the T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the US, scheduled from June 3 to June 30.

Following India’s impressive performance in the World Cup, the BCCI was keen on retaining Dravid, and the extension was seemingly never in doubt. However, Dravid, initially a reluctant coach, needed convincing.

While there is a chance that Dravid might not accept an extension beyond the T20 World Cup, discussions about the possible extension of other support staff members have been deferred.

The BCCI has bought some time on this matter, and further decisions will be made after the conclusion of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Selection Committee Meeting

The selection committee is set to convene in Delhi to finalize squads for the upcoming South Africa series across all formats—T20Is, ODIs, and Tests.

Scheduled from December 10 to January 7, the series includes three T20s, three ODIs, and two Tests.

Speculations suggest the retention of most players from the current T20 squad against Australia, while the ODI lineup may feature players from the World Cup, with potential exceptions.

There are rumors of Virat Kohli skipping ODIs, but sources close to him deny any indefinite break from white-ball cricket.

The leadership for the ODI side is uncertain, with questions about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, though he is expected to lead in the Test matches. As of now, Rohit is overseas and unavailable for comment.
